CHICAGO — A 61-year-old grandmother was shot in the neck Tuesday night while watching television in her Southwest Side home, the Tribune reports.

Officers were near the 3700 block of South Wolcott Avenue around 10:20 p.m. when they heard shots fired, said Officer Stacey Cooper, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

After arriving in the 3600 block of South Honore Street, officers saw a car drive off. They chased the car onto the southbound Stevenson Expy., and the car crashed at the northbound ramp of I-294, Cooper said. Police then took the man into custody for questioning.

Police said a 61-year-old woman sitting in the Honore home was the unintended victim of the shooting. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, Cooper said.

Police said a man outside the home had been arguing with another man in the alley before the shooting.
