Choose Chicago's Buzzfeed List on City Eats Makes Big, Red Mistake

By Paul Biasco | May 19, 2015 3:44pm

CHICAGO — If there's one thing the city's PR folks should know by heart, it's to never put ketchup on a hot dog.

Not when heading to lunch with a friend.

Not when treating an out-of-towner to your favorite neighborhood spot.

Not at a baseball game.

Especially not when penning a BuzzFeed listicle promoting the "23 Reasons Chicago Is The Definition of Amazing."

No. 19. "And the games are accompanied by the glorious Chicago dog."

Tomatoes, check. Poppy seed bun, check. neon green relish, check. Sport peppers, check.

That dog is looking pretty good with a third-baseline view at Wrigley, but upon closer review... KETCHUP.

Instagram user mrdeirz312 spotted the error immediately.

"Is there ketchup on that hot dog? #holdtheketchup" he asked.

The sponsored post on BuzzFeed by Choose Chicago, the city's in-house tourism board, was posted Friday and was being promoted as a sponsored Facebook post this week.

It's the third listicle the agency has created in the past two weeks.

Thankfully the previous "14 Chicago Foods Everyone Needs To Try," from May 1 featured a Superdawg sans ketchup.
