RAVENSWOOD MANOR — If you're planning on growing your own food this summer — or at least the fixings for a salad — this weekend is pay dirt in terms of neighborhood plant sales.

Peterson Garden Project kicks off its annual plant sale noon to 4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, at the organization's Learning Center, 4642 N. Francisco Ave.

Available seedlings include varieties of both heirloom and hybrid tomatoes; peppers, both sweet and hot; an assortment of herbs, including a disease-resistant basil; and several choices of kale.

Greens, beans, carrots, cukes and squash are all being sold as seeds. A complete list of offerings is available online.

The Manor Garden Club's annual plant sale is a bonanza for both edible and landscape gardeners, 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Luther Memorial Church, 2500 W. Wilson Ave.

In addition to vegetables and herbs, the garden club will have a variety of annuals, spring perennials, grasses and ferns available for purchase.

If it's variety you're looking for, the Kilbourn Park Organic Greenhouse plant sale has it in spades.

Choose from more than 150 varieties of tomatoes, peppers, herbs, onions and flowers, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 3501 N. Kilbourn Ave.

New this year: plants specifically selected for growing in containers and small spaces.

A complete list of available seedlings can be found online.
