LINCOLN SQUARE — It's a case of restaurant friends helping restaurant friends.

Baker Miller and The Winchester will collaborate on a dinner Saturday to raise money for Winchester employees, who have been off the clock since a May 3 electrical fire at the year-old restaurant at 1001 N. Winchester Ave.

The four-course dinner will be held at Baker Miller, 4610 N. Western Ave., with five seatings between 6 and 8 p.m.

The fire at The Winchester was on the second floor where the kitchen is located, said chef Greg Bastien. No one was injured. The worst of it was water damage, he said.

"There was a lot of flooding. We had custom wood flooring, which we're trying to figure out right now what to replace it with," Bastien said.

The East Village restaurant remains closed, though an announcement on its reopening could come by Saturday, he said.

On Saturday, Bastien will cook a spring-inspired menu incorporating Baker Miller's freshly milled grains, with dishes such as pork cheek with rainbow grits and wild garlic mustard.

Tickets cost $48 and are limited to 100 people. It's a two-step process: Buy tickets here, then e-mail parties.thewinchester@gmail.com to confirm your time slot.
