CHICAGO — The Goodman Theatre will be expanding its facility taking for educational programing, the theater's board announced Tuesday morning.

Hundreds of patrons packed the theater at 170 N. Dearborn St. to announce plans for the Alice B. Rapoport Center for Education and Engagement, which will open in above Petterino's Restaurant at the corner of Dearborn and Randolph streets.

The 7,800-square-foot facility will be used for classrooms, hands-on STEM learning labs and rehearsal space, enabling the Goodman to expand its education and outreach programs by 30 percent, the theater said.

The theater also announced it has secured more than $11 million for its $15 million Endowing Excellence Campaign, which included a naming rights donation from Michael Sachs in memory of Rapoport, his late wife.
