18-Year-Old Shot in Both Legs, Critically Injured in Kenwood, Police Say

KENWOOD — An 18-year-old man was shot in the South Side neighborhood of Kenwood Friday afternoon, police said, just blocks from President Barack Obama's Hyde Park home.

The man was shot in both legs near the intersection of 47th Street and Greenwood Avenue around 3 p.m., said Officer Veejay Zala, Chicago Police spokesman.

The Obama house is located at 5046 S. Greenwood Ave., less than a mile away.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Zala said.

No other information was immediately available.
