PIONEER COURT — A pair of bikini-clad animal advocates served up vegan chicken wings to Downtown pedestrians Tuesday, reminding football fans they can enjoy the upcoming NFL Draft without eating meat.

Georgia Argiris of Palatine and Amanda Slyter, who flew in from Los Angeles, wore "lettuce-leaf" swimsuits mid-day Tuesday at Pioneer Court, armed with about 180 Buffalo seitan wings from the Chicago Diner in Lakeview. The duo worked on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

"Even the worst examples of unnecessary roughness on the field pale in comparison to the misery of animals killed for food," said Argiris, 34.

The women served wings to several visitors at the Downtown plaza for a few minutes before security at the nearby Equitable Building, 401 N. Michigan Ave., asked them to take the act to the sidewalk.

Argiris said she has been living vegan since she was eight years old, when she realized the animals she was eating were the same as the ones she loved learning about at school.

The NFL Draft begins Thursday night at Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Parkway, lasting through the weekend
