HYDE PARK — There is still a chance to catch cherry blossoms in bloom on Arbor Day.

The 120 cherry trees planted in Jackson Park near the Osaka Japanese garden in 2013 are still clinging to their blossoms on Friday, Arbor Day for 2015.

The trees started blooming more than a week ago when the skies were gray and the temperature suddenly dropped. But some of the petals are still holding on to branches before being blown into the lagoon.

The cluster of pink and white blossoms that dot the shores of the lagoon behind the Museum of Science and Industry, 5700 S. Lake Shore Drive, is one of the few places in the city to see the trees burst into bloom.

The only other place to see the trees en masse is at the Chicago Botanic Garden in north suburban Glencoe.
