UPTOWN — Who said record store day should only be celebrated on Saturday?

Shake, Rattle & Read, an almost 50-year-old vinyl and book shop in Uptown, is taking part in the annual celebration by offering discounts all weekend long.

Beginning noon Friday until 6 p.m. Sunday, everything in the store, 4812 N. Broadway, will be 25 percent off. That includes new and used vinyl records, rock n' roll magazines and used CDs and cassettes.

"We just decided to go big," said owner Ric Addy, who dubbed the weekend "Record Daze."

While Addy said he won't be offering limited releases or putting on in-store shows, he will be pulling out old 78s and magazines from the basement — stuff he's been collecting for 49 years.

Next year marks the 50th anniversary for the shop, which Addy's sister opened in 1966 as Book Box. Addy bought the shop in 1986 and changed the name to Shake, Rattle & Read but left the Book Box sign up.

The Uptown shop is among many record stores that will be celebrating record store day this weekend.
