CHICAGO — A man from suburban Elmwood Park is facing charges after intentionally hit two people with his car in Dunning early Monday, police said.

Christopher Ramirez, 22, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery and a count of having contact with street gang members after Elmwood Park police brought him into custody a short time after the incident, police said.

Around 4:20 a.m., Ramirez was driving in the 3200 block of North Ozark Avenue when he veered off the street to strike two men standing on the sidewalk, police said.

A 31-year-old man was taken to Loyola Hospital in critical condition, and a 30-year-old man was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in serious condition after they were struck by Ramirez's car, police said.

Ramirez's passengers, a man and two women, were not charged in the incident. But police said Ramirez and the man in his car were injured in the incident. They were taken to Community First Medical Center, where their conditions were stabilized, police said.

The women in Ramirez's car were not hospitalized.

Ramirez is expected in bond court Wednesday.
