STREETERVILLE — After months of rumors, Target Corp. confirmed Wednesday it has plans to open a small grocery in the shuttered Fox & Obel store in Streeterville.

The 24,000-square-foot TargetExpress store at 401 E. Illinois St. will open in October, the Minneapolis-based retailer tweeted Wednesday.

DNAinfo Chicago, among others, reported late last year that Target was circling the former Fox & Obel store since the upscale Streeterville grocer closed in 2013. Target also eyed a prime retail corner in Lakeview, but has since backed out.
