STREETERVILLE— Target has set its sights on Streeterville's shuttered Fox & Obel grocery store, Crain's reported Wednesday.

Target plans to open two express stores, one in Streeterville, on the corner of Illinois Street and McClurg Court, and the second in Lakeview, on the corner of Belmont and Ashland Avenue, Crain's reports.

The new locations in Streeterville and Lakeview will cover 24,000 to 30,000 square feet, which is much smaller than their typical stores which have 130,000 square feet.

In an email, Target spokeswoman Kristen Emmons would not confirm the plans but said: "Chicago is a great community for Target and we continue to pursue new opportunities to serve guests there."

Earlier this summer, Streeterville residents were disappointed after a local chain, Mrs. Green's Natural Market, indefinitely delayed its plans to move into Streeterville.

Streeterville resident Gail Spreen, who lives across the street from the former Fox & Obel location, said she is "excited for a retailer to be coming to the neighborhood."

"The space has been vacant for some time now," said Spreen, the president of the Streeterville Organization of Active Residents. "We've been thankful for the one store, Treasure Island, but that location is a little further for some people to walk to if they are buying a lot of groceries. But now with the Whole Foods coming and an Express Target, it gives Streeterville a variety of options. It's a great location. We welcome the addition"
