ENGLEWOOD — With votes still coming in, 16th Ward aldermanic candidate Stephanie Coleman refused to concede the runoff race to Toni Foulkes on Wednesday.

Foulkes declared victory in the 16th Ward on Tuesday night.

“We are still in this thang, we are still in this race,” Coleman said in a news release.

Coleman's campaign manager, Ray Harris, said he believes Coleman will become the ward’s next alderman because there are still unaccounted votes, as well as unresolved issues.

Just 112 votes separated Foulkes and Coleman Wednesday afternoon.

Harris said that a decision was not able to be made on Tuesday for several reasons. He said there were malfunctions at two precincts and the voting results from the provisional ballots and absentee ballots were not yet counted.

He made a visit to the Board of Elections to determine the process of counting missing ballots in precincts 5 and 21, along with the provisional and absentee ballots.

“The proclamation cannot be made until all of those things are done,” Harris said. “Fifteen teen hundred voted early, so when you consider all of those points, there is no reason, to concede until all of the voices in the 16th Ward have been heard.”
