HYDE PARK — New Institute of Politics fellow Kate Grossman is launching a series of eight explainers on school reform that will be closed to the press.

During the “Off the Record” series, journalist Grossman will talk about how the current reform movement with its focus on teachers unions and privately run charter schools got started and how Chicago is ground zero for the movement and its critics.

The series starts at noon April 9 at the University of Chicago Institute of Politics, 5707 S. Woodlawn Ave., with a discussion of how the movement for “accountability” grew out of the No Child Left Behind Legislation passed under President George W. Bush.

The entire series is free and open to the public, but a seat must be reserved ahead of time by visiting the institute’s event website.
