CHICAGO — Two people are facing charges in an armed robbery of a convenience store in which one clerk was pistol-whipped and another sliced with a box cutter, police said.

Mitchell Thomas, 24, of the 1400 block of East 72nd Street, and Jamie Branch, 23, from Indiana, are facing multiple charges of armed robbery after being identified as two of the four people responsible for the robbery early Friday morning, police said.

About 2:54 a.m., Chicago Police officers patrolling the River West neighborhood saw a robbery at the new 7-Eleven at 504 N. Halsted St., according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police Department spokesman.

After demanding money, the suspects pistol-whipped one store clerk and cut another, police said. According to a source, one of the victim was cut with a box cutter.

Leaving the injured victims, Thomas, Branch and two other assailants headed west in a car, police said. Near Grand and Cicero avenues, about 5 miles northwest of the robbery site, the assailants left their vehicle and ran away, police said.

After a short foot chase, police arrested Thomas and Branch.

Thomas faces one count of armed robbery, two counts of aggravated battery and one count of domestic battery. Branch faces one count of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated battery.

Thomas' domestic battery charge stems from an unrelated incident, police said.

Thomas and Branch are expected in bond court Saturday.

Police said they are seeking two men who got away. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 312-747-8382.
