CHICAGO — A 22-year-old man walked into a hospital after being shot in Woodlawn early Friday, police said.

Around 12:30 a.m., the man walked into the University of Chicago Medical Center after he had been shot in his neck, said Officer Amina Greer, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man drove himself to the hospital after the shooting in the 6200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue, Greer said.

The 22-year-old, whose condition had stabilized, was not able to provide further details to police because of his injuries, Greer added.

Demetrius Scott was shot by two unknown men after dropping off a friend, his sister Keshia Scott said.

He was able to drive himself to the hospital and made it to the emergency room before fainting, she said.

According to Keshia Scott, the bullet is still lodged in her brother's throat, and doctors are waiting until swelling subsides before attempting to extract the bullet.
