ROGERS PARK — Now you can get a sneak peek at the new "hackerspace" opening on Ravenswood Avenue.

The Chicago Industrial Arts and Design Center, which plans to open in the spring, will hold an open house 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the space, 6433 N. Ravenswood Ave.

The center is loosely defined as a hackerspace or makerspace, where people who love to build things — artists, do-it-yourselfers, craftsmen — can collaborate and create by renting space and tools.

The center's founder, Matt Runfola, said in a written statement he was recruiting volunteers to help out with marketing, fundraising and building out the space.

The three-story commercial building will eventually feature $300,000 worth of welding, woodworking, casting and 3-D printing equipment.
