Where to Celebrate Pi Day in Chicago Saturday ... It's 3.14.15 After All

By Tanveer Ali | March 13, 2015 5:52am

AROUND CHICAGO — Geometry nerds have been waiting for Saturday for a century.

March 14 is the annual celebration of all things circular and pi, one of the most famous irrational numbers. And as any trained mathematician should know, the 2015 edition is set up to be the most perfect Pi Day in a long time. (3/14/15 or 3.1415, get it?)

There are a lot of specials and events planned around Chicago to celebrate this once-in-a-hundred-years event, most of them related to eating pie or other round foods.

A couple of our favorites:

• WBEZ is hosting "The Ultimate Pi Day" at Adler Planetarium, replete with a cash bar, a DJ and a "Nerdette" podcast panel discussion. There also will be pie from Bang Bang Pie Shop, Hoosier Mama Pies and Piece Pizza. Get tickets for $25 here.

• Scafuri Bakery in Little Italy will be offering a free slice of pie to anyone who can recite from memory the first 20 digits of pi — at least until supplies last. (That's 3.1415926535897932385. We looked it up.) For the less geometrically inclined, pie slices will be on sale for $3.99 each; whole pies for $20.

And here's a map of some of the other Pi Day deals and events around town:
