Thirteen More People Shot Monday After Bloody Weekend Across City

CHICAGO — A violent weekend that left five people dead and 15 wounded turned into a bloody four-day stretch as an additional 13 people were wounded in gunfire Monday, three fatally.

The most recent fatal shooting occurred around 7:35 p.m. in Washington Heights.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the head while he was walking in the 9200 block of South Ada Street, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead, Estrada said.

The 26-year-old man was identified as Larry Hardwin Jr., of the 1400 block of East 90th Street. He was pronounced dead at 7:53 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred just before midnight in Garfield Park.

Around 11:45 p.m., a 42-year-old man was shot by a man who got into the passenger side of the victim's car while it was parked in an alley in the 100 block of South Pulaski Road. After the man pulled out a gun there was a struggle and the 42-year-old was shot in the right calf, Estrada said.

The victim drove himself to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Around 9:10 p.m., a 22-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk in the 4400 block of West Palmer Street in Belmont Cragin when someone in a gray car opened fire, Estrada said.

The 22-year-old man was taken to Community First Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized after being shot in the left leg, Estrada said.

An hour earlier an 18-year-old man was walking in the 1600 block of South Springfield Avenue in North Lawndale at 8:10 p.m. when two men walked up and one shot him in the leg,, Estrada said.

The man was driven by his mother to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Estrada said.

Earlier Monday, another nine people fell victim to gun violence, including one shooting in Roseland that wounded 2-year-old, a 5-year-old and a 34-year-old woman and killed a 77-year-old man.

Around 2:50 p.m., a man was shot and killed in Uptown.
