NORWOOD PARK — Norwood Park residents are hoping the third time is the charm for an independent grocery store planning to open this spring at Northwest Highway and Niagra Avenue.
Ada's Market and Deli, which has a store in River Grove, will open its second location at 6165 N. Northwest Highway in April, said Eric Feltman, a consultant working with store owner Adrianna Mendel.
Job fairs for the 40-50 positions will take place Monday, Wednesday, March 14, March 16 and March 18 at the store, Feltman said.
Two other grocery stores opened in what had been a long-vacant building during the last two years, but failed quickly.
Bea McDonough, the executive director of the Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce, said she was confident that Ada's "solid" track record will mean a fresh start for the store, in a strip mall with several other empty storefronts.
Ada's has been open near Grand and Cumberland avenues for 10 years, Feltman said.
"The store will cater to the community," Feltman said, adding that the store will feature local and organic produce, a meat counter, deli and large section of prepared meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
A coffee bar featuring java from Intelligentsia will open at 5:30 a.m. to allow commuters heading to the nearby train station to grab a quick caffeine jolt, Feltman said.
Work is expected to start next week on the exterior of the store, which is set to get a more modern look, complete with steel and black accents, Feltman said.
The inside of the store has also been renovated to lower the high ceiling and give the store more of a boutique feel, Feltman said.
"It is going to be a personalized shopping experience," Feltman said.
