HYDE PARK — The Chicago Transit Authority is testing out weekend bus service on Pershing Road to connect the lakefront to three train stops and U.S. Cellular Field.

The CTA is running a six-month pilot testing to determine whether there is demand for weekend service on bus route 39.

The route connects Lake Park Avenue on the east with St. Louis Avenue on the west along Pershing Road, with stops at the Indiana Green Line stop, Sox-35th Red Line stop, 35th-Archer Orange Line stop and U.S. Cellular field.

“We worked very hard to get this bus running on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., and CTA will not hesitate to end the service if ridership is low,” said Ald. Will Burns (4th), touting the new hours on Facebook.

The test of the expanded hours started at the beginning of February and will continue for the six months.
