CHICAGO — After a depressingly cold February, Chicagoans should feel a little better leaving their homes as the city begins to warm up this weekend.
Thursday's temperatures are expected to reach only 18 degrees, but Friday could see a high of 31 degrees with a continual climb into the weekend, according to Kevin Birk, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.
Temperatures Saturday and Sunday are expected to reach 38 degrees, and Monday could see a high of 40. Now for the REALLY good news: Chicago could see a 50-degree day next week.
"[The warmup] should continue into the weekend, getting even warmer next week. It could be about 50 degrees by Tuesday or Wednesday," Birk said.
But don't get too excited: Birk isn't ruling out more cold days, or snow, this month.
"It is March in Chicago," Birk said. "Typically, we see warmups like this, then a cold front comes through."
