CHICAGO — Ride-sharing behemoth Uber hopes to fill the tiny niche that remains between flagging a cab and chartering a limo with a new service it's launching Monday that lets riders reserve rides in high-end cars.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, Uber users can choose to get picked up in such luxury brands as BMW, Lexus or Mercedes through the company's new service, uberSELECT.
"Whether it's date night, a midday meeting, or just a reason to feel fancy, riders deserve safe, affordable rides with an added touch of luxury," Uber's website announced.
Those who opt for luxury cars can still split fares with friends or co-workers using their app.
While the service gets up and running, demand may be high, the website warned.
