EDGEWATER — Police have assigned extra officers to the area of a shooting that injured two people earlier this week, 48th Ward Ald. Harry Osterman said.

On Wednesday, two men ages 22 and 25 were walking on the sidewalk around midnight in the 5800 block of North Kenmore Avenue when they were approached by four men, one of whom opened fire, police said.

The 25-year-old was shot multiple times and taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was listed in critical condition. The 22-year-old was shot in his leg and also taken to St. Francis, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

Osterman, in an email to constituents, said police believed the incident was gang-related.

He said police were reviewing video footage in the area of the shooting.
