Rogers Park Man Arrested With Gun in Evanston, Police Say

CHICAGO — A Rogers Park man was armed with a gun and resisted arrested Tuesday in Evanston, police said.

Valgas Etheard, 21, of the 7200 block of North Claremont Avenue, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, resisting an officer and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Evanston Police Department officers conducted a traffic stop for minor traffic violations at Howard Street and Asbury Avenue, police said. During the stop about 9:30 p.m., Etheard exited the front passenger side of the vehicle and fled on foot west on Howard, police said.

The Evanston Police officers were able to apprehend Etheard shortly after, and a loaded Smith and Wesson .357 revolver was found in his waistband, according to police.

Police said the gun had been reported stolen in Chicago.

Etheard will appear in a Skokie court house. A date and time has not been set.
