SOUTH SHORE — Ald. Leslie Hairston fended off a crowded field of challengers in the 5th Ward and avoided a runoff Tuesday night.
Hairston received 52 percent of the vote with all of the precincts reporting, securing her fifth term as alderman.
“I’m very happy,” Hairston said. “I was confident I was going to win it outright — I was doing the work.”
Hairston said she did not feel it was not more difficult to claim another term.
“We always do a very active ground campaign,” Hairston said.
Once sworn in, Hairston will be serving her fifth term as alderman.
Anne Marie Miles improved over her last run against Hairston capturing 20 percent of the vote.
