Emma Mitts, Tara Stamps Head to Runoff Election in 37th Ward

AUSTIN — Incumbent Ald. Emma Mitts and challenger Tara Stamps will face off in a runoff election April 7 after neither secured a majority vote in the 37th Ward race Tuesday.

Mitts, who has represented the Austin and Garfield Park ward since 2000, scored 49 percent of the vote, while Stamps, one of three challengers fo the seat, got 32 percent of the vote.

Leroy Duncan and Maretta Brown-Miller trailed behind; neither received more than 13 percent of the vote.
