HYDE PARK — The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians will be honored this year during the Jazz Format Black History Month Celebration of Jazz.

Ari Brown and Mwata Bowden, both influential members and collaborators with the group of experimental jazz musicians formed on the South Side of Chicago in 1965, will receive the Reach award during the annual concert hosted by neighborhood radio station WHPK.

The Ari Brown Quintet, featuring group member Avreeayl Ra on drums, will also perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the International House, 1414 E. 59th St., on the University of Chicago campus.

Brown was a collaborator with group co-founder pianist Muhal Richard Abrams.

Clarinetist Bowden joined the group's Experimental Ensemble and the Art Ensemble in the mid-1970s.

Tickets are $10 and available online at brownpapertickets.com/event/1188646.
