JEFFERSON PARK — Performers who want be part of the Chicago Fringe Festival have until Feb. 15 to apply for one of the remaining slots.

Organizers of the festival — which will return to Jefferson Park for the third straight year — will use a lottery to fill the 37 spots in the festival left after the 13 guaranteed slots were snapped up in December in just a few minutes.

The lottery will take place at 2 p.m. Feb. 28 at Rex Tavern, 4933 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Half of the spots in the festival devoted to all things weird, off beat and avant garde will be set aside for Chicago artists, and five shows will launch the Kids Fringe pilot program during the festival's sixth year, organizers said.

The Kids Fringe performances should be appropriate for children younger than 12.

The lottery application fee is $25, and performers selected for the show will pay performance fees between $250 and $650, depending on the number of times they perform and the size of the venue.

The 2015 festival will take place Sept. 3-13.

More than 4,300 tickets were sold for performances during the 2014 festival — a record that meant more money for the artists, who receive 100 percent of the festival's ticket sales. The 50 artists who performed during the 2014 festival split nearly $29,000, more than in 2013.

The festival spent its first three years in Pilsen.
