RAVENSWOOD — The great part about owning a small business is you get to be your own boss. The downside — you have to be your own accounting department.

On Tuesday, the Ravenswood Community Council is hosting a Small Business Tax Seminar to help make the process of filling out forms for the IRS a little less, well, taxing.

Barton Eilts, founder of Eilts & Associates accounting firm, will lead the lunch-and-learn session scheduled for noon-1:30 p.m. at 1802 W. Berteau Ave., Suite 102.

Get the scoop on self-employment taxes, common deductions and, importantly, how to avoid penalties.

The cost of the seminar, which includes food provided by Tiztal Cafe, is $10 for council members and $15 for non-members. RSVP in advance and receive discounted admission: $7 for members, $12 for non-members.

Reserve your spot by calling 773-975-2088 or email margaret@ravenswoodchicago.org.
