CHICAGO — Fighter jets were scrambled in response to two "credible" bomb threats made against airplanes bound for Atlanta Saturday, and one Internet hoaxter tried to take credit - and claimed a Chicago address.
About 10:30 a.m. Saturday, a Twitter user going by the name of KingZortic tweeted at Delta Airlines that he had placed a bomb on one of its planes. The Twitter user later told Southwest Airlines the same thing.
The FBI deemed the threat credible. The flights were grounded, and bomb-sniffing dogs were deployed, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. No explosives were found.
Later, KingZortic taunted authorities, claiming to have guns and giving an address in Hermosa.
"come get me I got guns, COME AT ME," KingZortic tweeted.
"here they come, goodbye," KingZortiz wrote around 4:15 p.m.
The Twitter account appeared to have become active Saturday.
A Chicago Police News Affairs spokeswomman said police determined the tweets did not come from Chicago.
"We made an investigation and determined he wasn't from Chicago," said Officer Bari Lemmon, a police spokeswoman.
Special Agent Britt Johnson told the Journal-Constitution that the FBI willl “absolutely be doing everything we can to identify who made the initial threats and track them down.”
