NORTH CENTER — You could own a share in a farm, and its harvests, without plowing a single field or sowing a single seed.

That's community-supported agriculture (CSA) in a nutshell: People front money to farmers by buying a  membership (essentially a stake in the farm) and in return they receive regular shipments of produce throughout the growing season.

Learn more about the process straight from the farmers themselves at Northcenter Neighborhood Association's annual CSA Night from 5-8 p.m Monday at Epiphany United Church of Christ, 2008 W. Bradley Place.

The event will provide the opportunity to meet the people who grow our food as well as to compare programs.

Community-supported agriculture can differ widely from farm to farm in terms of cost, pick-up/drop-off locations, the amount of produce shared, the number of weeks of the subscription, etc. Some farms arrange annual visits for their members, some provide recipes with their weekly shares, still others are certified organic — shop around.

Farms that are confirmed to attend: Angelic Organics, Earth First Farms, Mint Creek Farm (which produces meat instead of produce), Peasants' Plot, Tomato Mountain Farm and Willow Ridge Organic Farm.
