IRVING PARK — Forgot to make plans for Australia Day, didn't you?

That's OK, so did most Chicagoans, what with this not being Australia.

Luckily the folks at Templestowe Pub, co-owned by Aussie John Sheahan, are inviting everyone to their Australia Day party, 8 p.m. Friday, 3135 W. Montrose Ave.

Patty Wetli explains what Australia Day is all about:

They'll have Aussie beer, Aussie wine, Aussie snacks, an Aussie costume contest (Hugh Jackman lookalikes are definitely encouraged to attend) and Aussie trivia.

File this factoid away: Technically Templestowe is jumping the gun on the holiday, which officially occurs on Jan. 26.

The date commemorates: A) the founding of Foster's brewery; B) the invention of vegemite; C) Nicole Kidman's split from Tom Cruise; or D) the landing of the first convict ships from Great Britain at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the raising of the Union Jack.

Ask Sheahan for the correct answer. And be sure to wish him a "g'day, mate."
