CHICAGO — A woman is dead and a 42-year-old man is hospitalized after their car slid off Lake Shore Drive and onto a frozen lagoon in Lincoln Park early Monday.

Around 1:45 a.m., emergency crews were called to the 2200 block of North Lake Shore Drive for an accident, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Crews found a car flipped over on the frozen lagoon with a man and woman inside. Crews were able to rescue the two from the car, Pacheco said.

The woman was taken to Northwestern Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The man was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, Pacheco said.

The crash appears to be alcohol-related, Pacheco said.

The Major Accidents Unit is investigating the crash.
