BRIDGEPORT — Fans of rare and offbeat music are invited to Maria's Community Bar for a night of intense listening.

The event, called "Thrift Score: You Can't Judge A Record By Its Cover" is billed as a "left-of-center celebration of incredibly strange music." It takes place 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Jan. 25 at Maria's, 960 W. 31st St.

The fourth installment of the "Thrift Score" series, it will will be hosted by DJ Tony Medina and other collectors.

The event also features a screening of cult movies, with "a particular emphasis on Japanese exploitation films from the swinging '60s and the sexy '70s," organizers said.

Fans of seriously strange music can win a $25 gift card to Dusty Groove Records, 1120 N. Ashland Ave.

To win, guests will have to guess the name of the artist of a track that's being played in the bar.

But good luck with that — the whole night is about diving way deep into eclectic music.
