ALBANY PARK — Business owners in Albany Park are on alert after a string of smash-and-grab burglaries has targeted shops along Kedzie Avenue.

In four separate incidents, occurring between Dec. 31 and Jan. 13, an unidentified thief has broken into stores by shattering the front window or glass door with a brick or concrete block, and then making off with property from the business, according to police.

Little is known about the offender, other than he's male and wears dark clothing with his face covered.

The burglaries took place:

  • 4500 block of North Kedzie Avenue, 6 a.m., Dec. 31
  • 4900 block of North Kedzie Avenue, 1:30 a.m., Jan. 8
  • 4900 block of North Kedzie Avenue, 10:30 p.m., Jan. 11
  • 4700 block of North Kedzie Avenue, 5:15 a.m., Jan. 13
