Woman Fatally Hit by Car Near Addison Blue Line Stop

CHICAGO — An Irving Park woman was killed Friday morning when she was hit by a car near the Addison Blue stop, police said.

Maria Sapp, 58, was crossing the 3600 block of West Addison Street in the crosswalk about 6:20 Friday morning when she was hit by a car exiting the Kennedy Expressway, police said.

Police said the driver of a Dodge Journey exited the expressway headed northbound, and turned left, striking Sapp. Sapp, who lived two blocks away in the 3800 block of West Addison Street, was taken in critical condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:50 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office and police said.

The driver, a 41-year-old woman, stayed on the scene until authorities arrived, police said. No citation was issued. The Major Accidents Unit is investigating the incident, police said.
