BRIDGEPORT — The Bridgeport Boxing Club is opening its doors to the community for a day filled with free fitness classes.
Owners Shawna and Frankie "Time Bomb" Scalise said Sunday's event is a way of giving thanks to the residents who've supported their business, which opened last year at 3411 S. Halsted St.
Since then, the 3,000-square-foot gym has served as a training ground for boxing novices and professionals — it's where Scalise and other pro boxers train — and has hosted high-energy Zumba classes and calming yoga sessions.
The event will offer a taste of everything offered there, from kids workout classes to boxing boot camp. All of the classes are free. A complete schedule is below:
Yoga (ages 16 and up)
10-11 a.m.
Tiny Bombs kids fitness (ages 4-6)
11 a.m.-Noon
Youth Cardio Boxing (ages 7-15)
Noon-1 p.m.
The Art of Boxing (ages 16 and up)
1-2 p.m.
Boxing Boot Camp (ages 16 and up)
2-3 p.m.
Strength and Conditioning (ages 16 and up)
3-4 p.m.
Zumba (ages 16 and up)
4-5 p.m.
