CHICAGO — Jordan Lynch is heading north to play quarterback.

The Mount Carmel graduate and Heisman Trophy finalist signed with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League on Wednesday, according to the team's website. The Mount Greenwood native threw for 6,209 yards and 51 touchdowns in four seasons at Northern Illinois.

Lynch told DNAinfo Chicago in December that he needed to "keep working hard."

"I have to keep working hard and wait for a call, and when my opportunity comes, make the most of it," said Lynch, who noted he worked out with the Detroit Lions earlier this season.

"I am a quarterback at heart and would love a chance to play that, but with that being said, I just want a chance to play again," Lynch added.

Lynch was waived by the Bears during the preseason after he tried to make the team as a running back.
