Man Killed Brother With AK-47 at Family Christmas Party: Prosecutors

CHICAGO — An Iowa man has been charged in a domestic-related shooting in North Lawndale that left one of his brothers dead and his other brother hospitalized on Christmas Day.

Lorenzo Jones, 29, was charged with murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery after he was caught in Iowa and extradited to Chicago, police said.

The shooting occurred around 6:05 p.m. in the 1900 block of South Trumbull Avenue at their sister's home for a Christmas party, prosecutors said.

At the party, Lorenzo and his two brothers got into a fight regarding the treatment of their sick mother, who had died a month earlier, according to prosectors.

Police said Lorenzo Jones shot Dennis Jones, 52, of the 4900 block of West Augusta Boulevard. He used an AK-47, prosectuors said.

Dennis Jones was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital at 8:22 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Lorenzo Jones also shot his other brother, Allen Jones, 42, in his right leg, police said.

A Cook County judge ordered Lorenzo Jones held without bail.
