UPDATE: Kevin Reed was found not guilty by Cook County Judge Matthew E. Coghlan on April 15, 2015. The judge ordered Reed's gun to be confiscated and destroyed, court records show.

COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A loaded .38-caliber handgun was found inside a man's carry-on luggage at Midway Airport Tuesday afternoon by federal agents.

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, TSA officials found the gun in a carry-on bag belonging to Kevin Reed, 28, when his bag went through the airport's X-ray machine, Assistant State's Attorney Prosecutor Erin Antonietti said in court Wednesday.

Reed had a boarding pass for a flight to Detroit, Antonietti said.

He had recently driven to Kentucky and said he had forgotten that the gun was still in his carry-on bag, Antonietti added.

Reed is married, and works for Bank of America, according to his defense attorney.

"You're foolish enough and arrogant enough to go to the airport with a weapon," said Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois.

The judge ordered Reed held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
