HYDE PARK — Park boosters planning a $10 million visitors center in Jackson Park are adding extra meetings to reach neighbors around the park.

Project 120 is adding two meetings about its plans to avoid being drowned out by a conflicting meeting called by Mayor Rahm Emanuel about putting the Barack Obama Presidential Library in the park.

Residents who want to attend the Obama library hearing at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Hyde Park High School, 6220 S. Stony Island Ave., can get an update on Project 120’s plans at 6 p.m. Jan. 20 at Montgomery Place, 5550 S. South Shore Drive.

Project 120 will host a 6 p.m. meeting Tuesday at the Booth School of Business on the University of Chicago campus on the privately funded visitors center to be built on the parking lots south of the Museum of Science and Industry.

Architects will show updated concepts and experts on Frederick Law Olmsted will talk about how the visitors center is being built to complement the park designer’s vision.

Both representatives from Project 120 and University of Chicago officials working on the Obama library plans will also present at a 7 p.m. meeting of the Jackson Park Advisory Council on Monday at the park field house, 6401 S. Stony Island Ave.
