CHICAGO — A 1-year-old boy allegedly beaten by his mother's boyfriend died Friday afternoon, authorities said.

Johnny Kimble, of the 700 block of East 79th Street, was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m. Friday at Comer Children's Hospital.

His mother's boyfriend is accused of beating the boy earlier this week because he wouldn't stop crying.

Dantis Porter, 28, allegedly beat the boy, cracking his skull, breaking his ribs and causing internal bleeding.

Porter had been babysitting while his girlfriend was at work on Tuesday, prosecutors said. She came home to the 1100 block of West Marquette Road about 7:15 p.m. to find Johnny slumped over in his stroller, prosecutors said.

Porter told police he beat the boy because he was angry the child wouldn't stop crying, Assistant State's Attorney Erin Antonietti said.

Porter was charged with aggravated battery to a child causing permanent disability, and held without bail.

"I may get in trouble for saying this, but, sir, you are a monster," Cook County Judge Adam Bourgeois told Porter.

Police said they had not been informed of upgraded charges against Porter, whose next scheduled court appearance is Jan. 16.
