IRVING PARK — Candidates for 33rd Ward alderman will make their case at a community forum scheduled for Jan. 27.

Incumbent alderman Deb Mell — who was appointed to the position in 2013 — will square off against challengers Tim Meegan, a teacher at Roosevelt High School, and nonprofit consultant Annisa Wanat, who survived an objection to her nominating petition.

A fourth candidate, Tyler Solorio, was knocked off the ballot Monday when the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners deemed his nominating papers were invalid due to insufficient signatures.

WGN-TV news anchor Dan Ponce will moderate the forum, which has been organized by eight civic organizations.

In advance of the event, the community groups are soliciting questions to pose to the candidates.

Residents can connect with the various neighborhood associations via Facebook or email: Albany Park Neighbors, Avondale Neighborhood Association, Horner Park West Neighborhood Association, Irving Park East Neighborhood Association, People of East Albany Park, Ravenswood Manor Improvement Association, The Residents of Irving Park and the West River Park Improvement Association.

The candidate forum will take place from 7-8:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at Bateman Elementary School, 4220 N. Richmond Ave.
