LINCOLN SQUARE — Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) can add a new title to his resume — husband.
The alderman married Charna Epstein, his former chief of staff, Dec. 20 in Arizona.
Pawar shared a photo from the wedding, which he called "the best day of my life," in his weekly newsletter to constituents.
"Thank you to everyone who has shared in our excitement and the overwhelming amount of well-wishes and congratulatory notes," he said.
Epstein played a key role in Pawar's 2011 election campaign and served as his chief of staff through February 2014, leaving to become the chief operating officer of the University of Chicago Urban Education Institute.
Prior to joining Pawar's staff, Epstein was director of crisis prevention, resettlement and disaster recovery for Heartland Alliance and earned a Red Cross Hero Award in 2011 for relief efforts following Hurricane Katrina and the Haitian earthquake.
The newlyweds are both graduates of the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration and Threat and Response Management program.
Along with Scott Simon, they are co-authors of the book "Emergency Management and Social Intelligence."
