CHICAGO — A man shot Tuesday in Albany Park died from his wounds, authorities said Saturday.

Omar Flores, 31, of the 4800 block of North Avers Avenue, was shot about 3:10 Tuesday afternoon in the 4700 block of North Lawndale Avenue, authorities said.

Flores was shot in the head and taken to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he died Thursday at 3 p.m., authorities said.

Police said Flores was a documented gang member.

Flores' mother, Ruth Ortiz, said her son was not able to work after being hit by a car in April.

"You can't imagine the feeling of a mother losing her only son and he was my youngest," said Ortiz, who also has two daughters.

Ortiz had been at the hospital around the clock since the shooting last Tuesday and has yet to speak to police, she said.
