St. Rita High School Makes ESPN Debut With Hoops Game Versus Simeon

 Senior point guard Armani Chaney (Tennessee State) will be among the Mustangs making their debut on ESPN2 on Friday night. The basketball team (4-1) will take on the top-ranked Simeon Wolverines (2-0) at 5:30 p.m. in a game being played at Moraine Valley Community College in suburban Palos Hills.

ASHBURN — Up next on SportsCenter ... St. Rita High School.

The Mustang basketball team (4-1) will play the top-ranked Simeon Wolverines (2-0) at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Moraine Valley Community College in suburban Palos Hills. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

The high school hoops games marks the first time St. Rita will play on ESPN in any sport. The all-boys Catholic high school at 7740 S. Western Ave. in Ashburn has a strong athletic tradition that dates back more than 110 years.

The Mustangs' athletic accomplishments include 80 Catholic league championships, 55 regional championships and 9 state titles, according to the school's website.

After Friday night’s showdown on ESPN, the Mustangs will compete in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament where they are the No. 3 seed. The tourney begins at 8:30 p.m. Monday versus No. 14 Homewood-Flossmoor High School.
