CHICAGO — A free tribute concert to legendary jazz drummer Elvin Jones will take place at Austin Town Hall on Friday.

"Jazz City: A Chicago Tribute to Elvin Jones" will go from 7-9 p.m. at 5610 W. Lake St. and is all-ages.

Jones played with John Coltrane in the '60s before starting his own bands under the name "Jazz Machine." Jones died in 2004 at age 76.

"Jazz Machine" alumni Willie Pickens, pianist, and Ari Brown and Dwayne Armstrong, tenor saxophone players, will be joined by bassist Larry Gray and drummer Ernie Adams.

The concert is part of the Jazz Institute of Chicago, and is part of the Jazz City concert series. Jazz City is sponsored by WDCB 90.9 FM, WHPK 88.5 FM Radio and the National Endowment for the Arts.
