RAVENSWOOD — We're heading into the height of holiday partying season, and though it may be exhausting, there are two things we never get tired of — sales and free stuff.

Lillstreet Art Center's 39th annual Holiday Party and Sale, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, features discounts on merchandise, a raffle for handmade work, live music and complimentary whiskey courtesy of Koval Distillery.

On Saturday, Lillstreet, 4401 N. Ravenswood Ave., hosts its winter open house, noon to 4 p.m.

Chat up artists as they work in their studios or take advantage of one of the many free workshops scheduled throughout the afternoon, including several opportunities to make your own Christmas ornament.

Workshops:

  • Screenprinting on Fabric, noon to 1 p.m., 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.: Make your own handprinted holiday tote.
  • Screenprinting on Paper, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Quilted Ornaments, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Some sewing experience helpful, but not required.
  • Wheelthrowing, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.: Try making a pot.
  • Metal Ornaments, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.: One brass or copper ornament per person.
  • Printed Ornaments, noon to 4 p.m., drop-in, six participants at a time.
  • Clay Ornaments, noon to 4 p.m.
  • Cookie Decorating with First Slice PIe Cafe, noon to 4 p.m.

Demonstrations:

  • Ceramic artists-in-residence will show how they make and decorate their handmade pottery, noon to 2 p.m.
  • Lillstreet faculty members Joe Kraft and David Trost demonstrate opposite ends of the ceramic spectrum. Kraft will show how to work small, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., while Trost will work big, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
