LINCOLN SQUARE — Lincoln Square's fine dining dynamic duo, Elizabeth and Goosefoot, earned repeat one-star rankings from the Michelin Guide, which released its 2015 list of noteworthy restaurants on Tuesday.

In all, 24 Chicago restaurants received either one, two or three stars.

The northernmost Chicago Michelin honoree, Elizabeth, helmed by chef Iliana Regan, expressed its gratitude via an email blast to fans.

"We could not be more proud to retain our star," read the message. "We've worked very hard and long this year. We have pushed ourselves to new levels and continue to do so."

Though lauded primarily for its "new gatherer cuisine," Elizabeth, 4835 N. Western Ave., has branched out of late, hosting a pop-up "doughnut and dumpling special" in early October that had customers lined up around the block for hours.

Janet Fuller explains how the Michelin Guide got started and what the stars signify:

Goosefoot, which nabbed a Michelin star for the third year in a row, has also spread its wings.

In mid-October, chef Chris Nugent and his wife Nina debuted Goosefoot Food & Wine at 2654 W. Lawrence Ave., in the storefront immediately next door to the restaurant.

The shop is stocked with gourmet foodstuffs and a wide-ranging selection of wines intended for pairing with Goosefoot's BYOB menu, but the real showstopper are Nugent's hand-painted hand-crafted chocolates.

In Michelin's rankings, one star denotes "a very good restaurant in its category," two stars means "excellent cuisine, worth a detour," and three stars are given to restaurants with "excellent cuisine, worth a special journey."
